Becoming a parent is a major life transition and adjusting to this new role takes time and effort. Although a baby may arrive in your arms in a single day, learning to navigate life as a mum or dad happens gradually. Parents must learn new skills, adapt to changing responsibilities and find a new balance in their relationships and daily routines. There will be moments of uncertainty and mistakes along the way and that is part of learning.
The first few weeks and months after birth can be particularly challenging. Many new parents feel exhausted, overwhelmed, and unsure whether they are doing things right. Everyday concerns, from feeding and sleeping to understanding their baby's needs, can suddenly feel much more complicated than expected.
There may even be moments when parents question their abilities or wonder whether they were ready for this change. These thoughts and feelings can be difficult to admit, especially when parenthood is often portrayed as a joyful experience.
Having mixed emotions does not make you a bad parent. Happiness, love, frustration, worry, and self-doubt can all co-exist together during this transition. Many parents experience similar challenges as they adjust to their new family life. Giving yourself time, accepting support and recognizing that you do not have to figure everything out at once can make this period feel more manageable.
